I bought this grinder after extensively researching many different makes and models. I had been using a blade grinder for use with a Bodum Chambord French press and have never been able to get a consistent grind. I always ended up with chunks of beans mixed with very fine powder. There's just no way with that style grinder to get a uniform grind, something that's imperative to get the most out of your French press.
The Bistro grinder has an attractive, well thought out design. The top canister holds about 3/4 lb or so of whole beans and is sealed by a rubber gasket with a silicone rim to ensure they stay fresh. The grind setting is easy to set and goes from coarse (French Press) to Espresso. The timer is nice in that it doesn't tick down like an egg timer but stays where you set it. It's great once you figure out the time needed to get the right amount of grounds for your morning brew as you don't have to reset the timer every day. Grinding is quiet and produced a very consistent coarse grind without many "fines". I haven't used the other settings yet so can't speak to those. The taste of coffee from the press is markedly improved with less sediment. There is a 20 second limit to each grind time with a recommended 5 minute wait between grinds; worth considering if you need a lot of grounds at once but not an issue for me. I use about 4 tablespoons of grounds in my press and it takes about 10 seconds to produce that much.
The glass canister has a nifty rubber top that sits flush with the grinder housing and prevents dust from spilling out. The glass is also less static-prone than the plastic in my blade grinder. The whole unit is easy to disassemble and clean as well. Also, there is a cord wrap space under the base to help minimize cord clutter.
Overall, the build quality is just excellent with every component serving a function and working as it should. For the price, quality, aesthetic, etc. this was the right choice for me. Highly recommended.
