Replacement Beaker has thicker walls resulting in snugger fit of the mesh filter and better heat retention, and of course better durability!!! This beaker was the first replacement that I bought. I found that the replacement is a bit thicker and more durable than the original, and the price is not too unreasonable.
What I REALLY wish is that Bodum would sell the unbreakable polycarbonate replacement beakers rather than requiring you to buy a whole new press. It would make them less money, but life would certainly be easier for the consumer.

Was I heartbroken when I tapped the carafe (lightly) against the plastic garbage can to shake loose some stubborn grounds and heard *that sound*! The fact that replacement carafes are available eased the heartache a little. I'm really glad I read other reviews about ordering the correct size. What I thought was a 4-cup was in fact an 8 cup, so I was able to get the right beaker on the first try. It fits perfectly and I'm back in coffee heaven.Customer Review: it suits my needs
