Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Bean French Press Coffeemaker with Locking Lever Lid, 12-Cup (51-Ounce), RedCustomer Review: A few points. Summary: 4 Stars
First, this is my first Coffee Press, and after reading many reviews I went with a Bodum. I decided on this model due to the coloring, what I believe would be a more stable base.
Everything arrived with no issue, and the box was not damaged what so ever. Yet there are a few concerns that I want to point out.
1. The color is not near as vibrant as shown in the images.
a. I purchased the Red model, and it is a very much a light satin when it comes to the gloss, and once it is handled it goes more to a flat red.
b. It is plastic where every you see the color you ordered. Not very firm, and a bit flexible.
2. There is no metal other than the plunger, filter, and the push rod.
3. The instructions to open the lid are inside the press, and the lid is not that easy to open until you know the little trick.
a. This could easily lead to breaking the lid and having to return the product!
4. The lid is a bit flimsy, and it actually made of 3 parts:
a. The plastic "locking" collar and pouring spout.
b. The flat plastic upper lid.
c. The plunger rod.
1. If you are not too careful and force the lid, you could easily break the lid apart.
What I like about it.
1. Easy to use.
2. Makes a great, RICH, cup of coffee.
3. Easy to clean.
4. Nice flat base encased in plastic, very stable.
5. No electronics to worry about.
6. Small and takes up very little space.
Things I learned about coffee presses.
1. Uses much more coffee than a automatic drip.
a. Just compared by volume it appears to be almost 3 times more coffee used!
2. Makes a very RICH cup of coffee.
a. I used to drink 3 cups, now I barely finish 1!
3. Coffee beans are NOW more expensive!
a. It just figures, I go to a press since I was tired of buying an auto-drip every other year, and now the beans are almost $4/lbs. as compared to the auto-drip at $2.5/lbs. That is for the same brand and 100% Colombian.
Bottom line.
I will have to use the press for awhile longer, yet I can see this being the "norm" for my home. I will update later.
Description of Bodum Bean French Press Coffeemaker with Locking Lever Lid, 12-Cup (51-Ounce), RedThe new BEAN French Press Coffee Maker has a patented new locking lid system. It offers a heat seal and precision pour spout. By pressing lever with thumb while pouring, you have total control over flow of liquids. When lever is released, liquid not only stops pouring but spout actually closes off which eliminates exposure to outside air. This allows your coffee to remain hot and fresh for a longer period of time and prevents drips while serving. Available in a vivid array of colors, you will enjoy looking at the BEAN as much as using it! The large 12 Cup (1.5 liter, 51 oz.) capacity serves 4 - 6 people.
