Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Chambord 12-Ounce Coffee PressCustomer Review: perfect for one person Summary: 4 StarsI love this press because it's the perfect size for one person; a quick cup of java in the morning.
If you're making for more than one, I'd recommend a bigger size though.
Customer Review: Well-designed, well-made product Summary: 5 StarsI tried a coffee press several years ago and gave it up because the taste was too harsh and there was too much sludge on the bottom. The Bodum press eliminates both problems. The metal screen assembly is very tight and fits the glass perfectly, resulting in almost no sludge and a balanced taste. The pot is also visually attractive, looks good on the countertop.
I had trouble figuring out how much any coffee press actually holds; press makers use the term "cup" very loosely. So here's the specs on this "3-cup" pot: If you fill the pot to the brim with water, you've got about 16 fluid ounces (2 cups). Allowing for the volume of coffee grounds, and the fact that you can't press with the pot filled to the brim, it will yield about 12 fluid ounces of drinkable coffee (1.5 cups)or a single coffee mug.
If you're new to using a press pot, note that you must use coarse-ground coffee for best results. Which in turn means that you need a coffee grinder that can produce a coarse grind. The typical $20 grinder can't do this. If you try grinding for just a few seconds, you'll get a mixture of ground coffee and almost-whole beans. If you find you like the taste of pressed coffee, be prepared to spend at least $100 on a good grinder.
Customer Review: Makes good coffee - simply Summary: 5 StarsThis is an excellent product that requires little storage space and makes good coffee. It is idiot-proof to use and make just the right amount of coffee for one person.
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 StarsGreat product. It pours out a little slowly. But it is very sturdy!
Customer Review: Coffee better than from your neighborhood coffeehouse Summary: 5 StarsWith a stellar rating this BFP (bodum french press) already has, my review is superfluous. But as an avid coffee drinker of 10 years, and having used BFP for last 3 years, 3-5X/wk, I felt compelled to give a shoutout to my BFF, BFP. Within 3-5 minutes it makes the smoothest, most flavorful, and most delicious black coffee (I'm a minimalist). EVAR. Plus, it does it in style. If there are 2 or more people in your living quarters I would recommend a larger size, as this BFP makes 1 large cup of black coffee (or 2 small cups). Bodum is an excellent brand and the instruction insert is crystal clear -- even a monkey can learn how to use it.
One con: the glass beaker is not very sturdy when subjected to physical insult. I broke the glass beaker once when it fell 10 inches onto the countertop, but the replacement beaker has been going strong for the last 2 years.
