Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Chambord 12-Ounce Coffee PressCustomer Review: Glass Breaks Too Easily Summary: 1 StarsDO NOT BUY ANY BODUM COFFEE OR TEA PRESS THAT CONTAINS GLASS. BODUM USES A SPECIAL BOROSILICATE GLASS THAT IS EXTRAORDINARILY FRAGILE AND BREAKS FOR NO APPARENT REASON.
I love Bodum Coffee Presses. But I would NEVER recommend anyone buy one with a glass beaker. You will need to replace the beaker frequently, since the special glass Bodum uses is extremely fragile, and breaks repeatedly for no apparent reason at all. I replaced four beakers, two glass tea presses, and several beakers from milk frothers in short order before giving up. Make no mistake, you do not have to bang the glass against anything for it to break. It simply cracks spontaneously for no apparent reason
Bodum has come out with some presses with a LEXAN clear plastic beaker.
These do not break. I assume they came out with the LEXAN product because of problems with the glass. Be warned.
If you do buy this product, buy a half dozen replacement beakers at the same time. You will need them.
Customer Review: Broken Summary: 3 StarsI guess I am too Clumsey but I went through two broken glass parts when I bought the stainless steel one and that is the best.
Customer Review: OK, but not the best Summary: 3 StarsThis was originally billed as a 3 cup model. I note that it is now the "12 ounce" model. More accurate, since you'll be lucky to get 1-1/2 5 oz. cups out of it. Also, it is very hard to remove the plunger when the unit is still warm. I have found that running it under cold water first makes the removal task much easier. Still, I would recommend the next size up.
Customer Review: Very pleased! Summary: 5 StarsWe own the large-sized Bodum Chambord press. I decided I wanted a smaller version for those times when I just want a single cup of coffee, and this is the perfect size for that. Its design is identical to the large version and it functions just as well. Also works great for brewing tea!
Customer Review: Not a good design Summary: 2 StarsI bought this product and used it four times before the carafe broke. Not very well designed; the carafe fits too tightly into the holder making it very difficult to remove. I was always concerned that the glass would break in my hand. Fortunately it cracked instead of completely breaking. It's also very small. You can barely get the average morning cup of coffee out of it. I wouldn't recommend.
