Yes, gold is not magnetic, however, that doesn't mean that gold doesn't enhance magnetic properties within magnetic materials. This level of science is above me but there are several articles that you can find on google that states that gold can enhance magnetic fields. Whether it does in this item, I do not know. Just thought I would add my two cents. Also, I rated it 3 stars because it is the middle of the scale and I haven't seen the product to judge it.Customer Review: Good price, I think.

I just purchased this--don't know exactly what I am going to do with it, but a 20-inch, super-strong magnet for 9.99 with free shipping seems like a good deal. I am thinking once I get it, I will think of a great application. I tentatively plan to put it above my desk to hold scissors, staples, clips, pictures, etc. I also have a steel entry door and am thinking of using it as a door stop to keep this door open.
