If you want to spend the time and money continually buying your own paper bags, putting your teas in there, go for it. Probably going to be a little better than this.
If your looking for a loose tea solution that's dish-washable, this is as good as it gets. I've tried the tea-balls, and other products... they don't do it. This does, plus it IS actually very hand that the lid doubles as a bottom for the infuser so you don't get your counter/table wet.
Only downside as stated, for very small loose teas with lots of sediment... not really going to work, you need a bag. But that's just it, usually most are going to be brewing the larger size leaf loose teas with this, so you shouldn't have a problem if you plan to use this for greens, blacks, and so on.
One more thing, I didn't have my coffee maker set, french press was gone, wanted to make a cup of coffee... used this. Absolutely great coffee! I was totally surprised. A little work was involved, but when in a pinch, this CAN if NEEDED, double as a coffee brewer. In the end, not a bad buy. Recommended.
